I was gonna say that I'm not very into the artistic parts of mapping but I realised in general I'm not into "artistic things" and I deem a lot of stuff as form over substance, simpler or more relatable media are more powerful to me usually (let me use an anime example - many people I know really liked the plot of Sonny Boy, for me it was extremely form over substance because the thing it was trying to convey was so obvious to me that it didn't need all of this abstractness)
and I think the same way about osu maps, I just wouldn't consider the song meaning as one of the aspects which matter to me because ultimately if I like the song, if I like the visuals in the map and if it plays well then that is enough for a great map
I can't really word how I feel about this too well but in short I think that treating osu maps as mostly video game levels is fine, and in that context the actual meaning behind the song does not matter much
"mindless self serving gameplay" is what Kataryn used and "slop" to me is just a name for this style (even if obviously negatively charged; I personally don't think so and there are many different types of "slop" to me and aim slop is just one of them)
and yeah overall I disagree (wouldn't put too much value on song meaning in context of osu maps personally) but fair enough that view makes sense

from my experience the more comfortable the jumps the easier they are to hit but then this might be uncomfortable to me but comfortable to someone else
also I am surprised that the meaning of the song matters that much to you guys as if making a slop map was an insult to it or something; it allows for it better than all the other megasets (at least they didn't have to speed this one up!)

this is what I meant by subconsciousness in my original comment and I don't think it's a bad thing or anything it's just not everyone (in fact I think the overwhelming minority) actually thinks about like every single thing in their maps and they have actual reasoning behind it that's all - in short ppl just place shit more often than not (even today but more so back then, that was my point) imo and that's what I was going at - the analysis is an absolutely fair thing to do if u enjoy the map a lot obviously

Well fair enough I didn't really mean to say that this map is Accidentally good it's more just I've seen this sort of deep analysis done on so many old maps that there have to be at least a couple that were completely fully vibe mapped and then 15 yrs later they're suddenly PEAK so I felt like giving my own 2 cents on the topic in general
I disagree; this map is iconic for the sole reason that it was very very difficult in like 1993 not because it has an identity or whatever (it clearly does though)
I don't mean to like undermine your point or anything it's just extremely funny to me when ppl overanalyze old maps on here and make up theories when (IMO!) most of those old maps were just some fuckin chinese guy having fun placing geometric shapes in the editor and their "amazing ahead of their time mapping" came from subsonsciousness or accidentally instead of actual thought
I would like to be more serious abt maps I like here but whenever I post a serious comment I'm the only comment and the map has like 3 ratings ... It is what melter described but even worse because the hallucinations are stuck in my head only and I am developing advanced schizophrenia because of it Anyways maybe more ppl can escape the chinese mapping virus 1 day and we can have more varied conversations under Fuckign random maps but until then No serious discourse for me
that being said I don't mean to say that only simple maps are good or anything of the sort it's just more so I can't ever enjoy stuff like this underscores - Uncanny long arms (with Jane Remover) (wafer) because in the 3 criteria I listed:
- the song is whatever for me,
- I don't think the gameplay is very good
- visually I don't like it as well
so any and all artistic value is completely lost on me from the get go
