A failed attempt at making an experimental map, the art is borderline edgy and doesn't make me feel anything about the music, even though the song is very powerful. Compared with maps like Summertime Rolls, which I loved, or even Shiten, which is a map that grew up with me, this map is proof that there's a line between experimentation/creativity and nonsense.
Moreover, the gameplay and playability of RE is extremely poor, a boring build up with an impossible ending that annoys me.
Surely one of the worst maps I've played, with all due respect to the storyboard I loved on this map and the mapper I paradoxically enjoy playing more and more.
1/10
wish the sb followed more of the wallsocket/underscores aesthetics but oh welllllllllllll [2]
sb is the most beautiful thing ever and im a weird guy who loves the last khai

@Toro Inoue More so the feeling of bright lights shun at you with your eyes closed. It was shamelessly copied from both NUITO - Intrjctn + NeKoMaJiN Vs (blixys) and brakence - introvert (quantumvortex) (introvert). But was made with the intention of kind of imitating lazer hair removal, or in this case, arm reduction.
YEAH
LOLL
So does that mean the actual map is a 2/5 for you?
YOU KNOW WHAT +1 for the song choice congrats its a 5/5
02:15:590 - did the storyboard just force me to blink
iiii caannn suckkk my toes without bending over

expressive as shit good job wafer
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
absolutely beautiful storyboard
now looking back at it, it wasnt that horrible BUT GOD DAMN WTF IS THAT ENDING
some ideas in this r actually rly insane and worth being explored further
peak avant-garde mapping
good sb
map gud, capy likes
some of the best breaks in mapping
115 votes is crazy
the gameplay is mostly garbage but everything else is soo good
i feel like the more times that people try to map a more accessible version of this map is the more likely chance of people realising that even the 1/16 rhythms are probably the best way to actually map this song imo
The song itself is amazing and I'm in love with that storyboard. Congratulations to underscores, Jane Remover and Coppertine. This is the perfect map for the Cinema mod.
For real though, the map contains numerous rhythms that do not make sense at all and don't fit the music, like the 1/16 jumps but especially the completely overmapped ending. Interesting concept on paper but it was very poorly executed.
Honestly I'd play this over summertime rolls
i don't understand the choice of 1/16 rhythm at 0:49 (on "to-es" and "o-ver"). i guess the intention was to make me do snap-aim motions, but the 1/4 rhythm of the lyrics is way more important and prominent and the snap doesn't fit imo. I know it's done on purpose but it feels like a mistake. that rhythm is called back at 02:16:271 where at least the intensity matches better so ?i guess it's setting up for that?
In the initial upload of this map i felt weird about it skipping the kiai. It's still a bold choice, i kind of wish there was *something* pointing out the 1/2 rhythm, but i like the way the storyboard title drop fills the gap. i see the vision. I like the storyboard a lot btw, simple effects that work well.
to my ears, the intense part of the song starts at 04:32:634 and the escalation at 04:48:998 is *relatively* minor compared to the initial impact. which is why it's jarring that the map follows the vocal rhythm to a T until 4:48, and only *then* starts the rhythmic overmapping.
if anything:
1. well i have my whiny complaints but i still like the way this map makes me think and feel. If i agreed with everything in the map it would not have the same impact.
2. i still think the ending is way too hard tho .
3. https://twitter.com/osuisome/status/1745399670854275289
I never intended for people to think this map REQUIRES a storyboard. In fact, i made the storyboard as an added experience on top of the map.
However due to how I wanted the impact of the kiai / breaks, i kinda had to enforce a pretty low dim for players. with a little disclaimer that if they can't play with bright settings, to turn the dim up, even higher than 30% (also, it's all recommendations, not enforcements)
copper wanted people to experience it with the storyboard
i dont care how you play it aslong as you look at it some way personally though
i think the storyboard makes map borderline unplayable if you have no bg dim on like wafer wants you to
@audinor, I think not a single person, whether on the mapping side or the player side, is surprised that this map is controversial.
Okay I wanted to write an honest to god review because I genuinely do love this song,
For the caramel layer :
White granulated sugar
For the filling:
1 (12 oz) can evaporated milk
Milk
Vanilla extract
A pinch of salt
5 eggs
More white granulated sugar
I can't exactly comment much about this map as I did the storyboard. But without the storyboard, I fell in LOVE with this map (at first, you will see why). It's one of the few maps that gave emotion way better than any other map before. it gave me the whole idea of the storyboard and how it would go (mostly, there are some parts that i didn't add in), the map kind of spoke to me in a sense, like you're going through a rough journey ahead and it's not going to be easy. I do hear the ending is a bit overkill, although i agree on some fronts, i also say that it kind of works well in a sense.
now, because of this huge backlash on the map itself. I kinda lost any thought of what i felt when i was making this storyboard and now i just feel empty when people tell me that i did a good job on the storyboard. I appreciate it, but there are better storyboards than this to try that are in the same veign.
modern mapping is crazy because people will be surprised when you don't like a heavily experimental map

good job wafler

Wanted to write an actual review for this map because it's got a lot of interesting ideas and I want to talk about them. (and also barely anyone actually does reviews on this site)
For the record, I do not intend to fan any additional flames of hatred or intend to offend anyone or challenge others' perspective/opinions on the map, I am only here to offer my own.
This map embraces the freeform style wafer has used for a decent amount of time and is most probably well known from his dariacore maps. While I personally don't enjoy those maps, it's interesting to see this style applied to a more traditionally structured song.
I actually really like certain ideas within this map, like the use of doubles during the first two choruses, which might be the first real use of them as more than additional tapping strain that I've seen in a map (the progression from circle-slider to circle-circle is also cool).
The use of blank space during the kiai section after the 1st chorus to let the player breathe and emphasize the vocals indirectly is pretty cool too. I just wish these kinds of ideas were more prevalent during the rest of the map.
I highly disagree with the usage of additive rhythm and general emphasis in the last quarter of the map. Not only does the massive difficulty spike of the ending make the previous section which is almost just as intense (04:31:953 - 04:48:998) feel extremely weak in comparison, it creates a poor gameplay experience where if your objective as a player is to Do Well on the Map you have to play through the rest of the map to get to the part that determines your outcome the most. I understand that the map wasn't specifically designed to cater to that mindset, but it still affects the playing experience to me.
I understand the purpose of using additive rhythm and having such a drastic diffspike at the end, you want the map to conclude as the song does, with it's most powerful moments being at the end. I think this effect could have been achieved without the extreme measures the map takes in its current form, and reduce the player whiplash that taints the experience for me.
As an entire experience, the storyboard is nice, and the song is amazing, but unfortunately I didn't enjoy the final product. There are a few other nitpicks I have with the map I could mention, but that just feels lame.
3.5/10
i can touch my wiener
schizophrenic
dont let momothx cook again 💀
i mean this would probably be fine if there was any map surrounding anything i think
Two individuals have the capacity to engage in this strategic pursuit, Visionary. The cartographic representation at hand exhibits commendable qualities, while your assessment, unfortunately, deviates from accuracy.
visionary 🤓
this map is good if anyone says it’s bad they’re lying and bad [1]

sorry but i like this
unorthodoxy masked by pseudointellectualism doesn't mean it's good
To be fair, you need to be able to engage (or view, if that's more comfortable to you) in more political debates to better understand why this map was able to be ranked in the first place.
Many first mappers would make maps in a similar aesthetic to this and fail to explain the concepts and details over why they are able to do so. wafer, being an Beatmap Nominator helps him be able to defend his mapping, due to the crappy "7 digit" mapping aesthetic of the map connecting to the music even though it may be off-putting or very annoying to play through in the sense that you are trying to full combo this instead to just going for a pass, which is less, but still very annoying to do.
Many six-digits (myself included) have been brain-rotted to believe that jump maps are fun and to avoid other types of maps which lead people to the pipeline of pp farming to the point where trying to go to any other skillset feels unrewarding, leading players to stray away from actually getting better.
wafer making this map is meant to show that these skillsets actually matter and takes it to the extreme by making more abstract ways of showing off these skillsets, rather than making them more normal or player-friendly.
(This is my take on this map, in which you may disagree with the points I make, this is fair since I kinda rushed it.)
do the flop gaps
bold take
almost as good as do the flop
In the realm of contemporary cartography, one finds themselves adrift in a sea of conventional patterns and predictable representations. However, occasionally a maverick emerges, unfurling maps that transcend mere geographical delineations. Wafer, the enigmatic cartographer, is one such figure. His maps are not just tools of navigation but profound statements on the human condition. They are a tempestuous dance of lines and symbols, a labyrinth of existential inquiry. Wafer, a polarizing figure—vilified by some, venerated by others—embodies the Shakespearean conundrum of existence. His work is an exploration of 'to be or not to be,' expressed through the medium of cartography.
fiery's run is kinda crazy
i honestly dont know what to rate this, because i feel like 90% of this map is borderline genius but the ending just completely ruins the effect
giving this a 0 is unfair but it's not a 5 since it's so griefed by the end
i think this really does show how capable wafer is of creating a masterpiece but this one just isn't gonna be played ever
So many times, there's nothing left
There's nothing left at all
I know I'm right, 'cause when I'm gone
There's nothing left at all
Several hidden shots to the chest
funny cuz if someone somehow made this as their first map, I'd drop to my knees in tears and rate it 5 stars
I highly doubt someones first rank can be this avant-garde w/ reasons and justifications on why the map is the map lol
brazilian son or daughter with uncanny long arms?
its ok only u get it sometimes

Literal perfection in mapping form. If you rate this below a 5 you just don't have the brain capacity to truly understand the perfection of this map. It is impossible to make a map better than this, as it has reached the pinnacle of perfection. There is no longer a reason for you, with your tiny pea brain, to attempt to map, as it will ALWAYS fall short of this map. Every map you ever make from this point on, will only exist in the shadow of this map.
This is a 4.5 or 0.5 depending on my mood but giving this just a 2.5 feels wrong
50 comments already holy fuck

yeah i think im gonna have to agree with Mizunashi Akari here
mithia gets it

i like fire trucks and monster trucks
When I saw this map I realized that the real art I was looking for someone finally managed to find it, someone capable of being a master in the concept of maps, and that is wafer, yes, wafer is a misunderstood genius, hated by many, loved by another, but only he knows, that is to be or not to be, that's the reason
penis
not quite sure what's going on with the map but the storyboard is pretty awesome
i get what wafer is trying to convey but his execution is overdone to where i would not enjoy playing the map if i were able to
I respect it but the execution isn't my thing
i like the idea but i feel like a lot more can be conveyed with less
>avant-garde
i know its apart of the storyboard but skipping most of the kiai is just a massive fault to me
im sad.
I agree with you I was just linking the thread
/s/2094154
also the storyboard freezes my laptop at the end :( (it's a good sb though)
this song (and map) feels like a creepypasta
@visionary whats ur actual score then did u calculate
honestly im just so surprised you got away with 5% active object volume that shits hilarious, dont know if this will set a precedent or w/e but wowee
woey +1
with that being said the storyboard is awesome gj coppertine
mawkish and hyperindulgent mapping—which is then given focus and emotionally supercharged by some brilliant and very grounded pattern usage. its not easy to map like this; it often requires a lot of careful, effortful listening. you can feel the thought put into every object
I understand the intent but at the same time I'm left wishing that maps like this one attempted to make a compromise between the art and its playability
what woey said and also a bit too edgy
even ignoring any quality debates this represents basically everything that I don't find enjoyable in a map; excessive downtime, dissonant diff spikes and additive rhythm that is central to the map's construction
it's a shame too cuz I dig a lot of what's in here but I just can't stand the portions that I hate
Second half is giving Higan Torrent lowkey a lot of you is telling on yourselves
3/5 if this was a look in editor test
Maybe its the intent but the ideas translates horribly in to gameplay
if only he locked in at the end
nearly a 5 for me. wish the ending was more player friendly. but yeah some really excellent and envelope pushing ideas in the first half, love the progression between the 1/16 jumps in underscores and janes part. if you're paying attention then its hard to miss that the map is very emotionally charged, and the storyboard totally helps in that regard
i know you have it in you wafer to make a masterpiece
i hate that the choruses r unmapped
#Toes [2]
cool map
zero because u aint letting us hear objects
the hypergungazungagigacontrast is hilarious af
the ending on the map was what killed it for me everything else is rly good tho
idk if this is a weird bone to pick with this map or not, generally i like what this map is doing, but specifically 01:16:271 - and 04:48:998 - i feel weird abt coexisting. both of these individually are really neat but tackling the 2 most intense sections with 2 extremes on both ends of representation just feels a bit odd
this went from "ok haha i get why this is controversial" to "huh right i kinda get it" to "oh damn this really fits the song well"
this map is hard for me to gauge about. i really like some of the stuff that it's trying to do in the second half although it feels a bit too raw to digest... i am not a fan of the very stripped choices of first half though. though calling it in the lines of gratuitous (like most of the feedback) would be a discount for the map
yeah this is the one
it's ok
This is gonna have a skateboard ramp shaped rating distribution
