that makes so much more sense, thank you. i remember watching the pishifat video and it being slightly misleading? so i thought i'd ask here

it's not necessarily the FIRST map to do the things it did but it was definitely the one that popularized it the most while (at the time) being acclaimed by both mappers and players

basically besides the filler rhythm usage, there's a lot of creative symmetry usage for patterning which goes against the usual distance snapped stuff for the time, and even then some of the jumps that aren't symmetrical are quite interesting because most of the jumps back then were done by breaking from distance snap using pretty much exclusively just either higher distance snap (linear jumps) or playfield symmetry, while this map focuses a lot on pattern-based jumps e.g. 00:39:885 (4,1,2,3,4) -

also the whole thing about it using sharp angles on its jumps e.g. 01:20:732 (1,2,3,4) - made people start realizing that this sort of thing was more fun than a linear map, + in the era of "mapping styles" that were very identifiable because mappers just used the same patterns in different songs, galv stood out with all of these

it also has a decent song carry, if galv pulled this off on a less approachable song then it probably wouldn't have worked as well

there's a pishifat video u could watch

also, non-distance snapped spacing

what new ideas did this map actually bring to mapping as a whole? i've heard it popularised filler rhythm but is there anything new that this map actually brought

2yr ago

it feels fresh to play.

this is like the only influential map that didn't actually age well the other ones are all fine asf

3yr ago

it’s influential asf but it’s not very good to todays standards.
