dadaism is a rather difficult idea to apply in any field without it seeming either pretentious or cheaply/amateurish executed so i respect the attempt having actual effort put into it

i read 2 biographies of marcel duchamp in 2019 and this map came out of that period

i was really into how duchamp used "readymade" to break the idea of art. so i tried to do something similar in mapping: taking existing maps and treating them like objects, then reusing them in a different context

i chose two maps i had played a lot. both influenced how i understand mapping. the idea was to create something similar but still different, like making a dialogue with an old map (almost like talking to a 10-year-old map from current perspective)

at that time i really believed this could create a new kind of gameplay experience, maybe something that could even pass to next gen of players

but later i realized this idea was kind of broken

instead of real reinterpretation, it felt more like copying structure without enough transformation. it didnt really add new meaning, and slowly turned into something close to kitsch

this made me think: just reusing old material is not enough. if context doesnt change in a meaningful way, it just stays empty

if you're interested, just play the original maps yourself

i also tried this readymade map idea twice in 2019 — heres another one: /s/929385

i mean the 5* diff in this set btw
