we're not gonna remove any descriptors for the time being, so i'm going to close this

the only thing i'll add is that the mappers associated with this descriptor have largely reclaimed the term, you'll see them embracing it themselves. i feel like the derogatory aspect has largely diminished in favour of it just becoming the colloquial term for this particular type of map

i am okay with this existing because of the sheer degree of formulaic that these maps have reached. dont do this to a video game if you dont want this to happen culturally

if its a "slop" descriptor is this not just a "bad" descriptor

anyway Uhh I dont like descriptors because they exist in an impasse where u cant say anything important about the map because anything important is necessarily subjective and unfit for a universal categorization system

for example "aimslop" is actually a quite useful descriptor (you can make the map in your head from this one word!) whereas "jump aim" is basically so bland as to tell you nothing about the map but people will fight over whether things are aimslop or whether the descriptor should exist at all

How abt "slop" descriptor to not limit to 1 map type and the subjectivity will be judged by ppl actually voting yes / no on individual maps

It is not that subjective. I believe the reason "speedslop" or "flowaimslop" tags haven't been proposed is because those maps are much more open to interpretation, often longer songs where mappers can justify their 4-minute-long washing machine streams while appealing to their heart and intent and visions and whatnot.
In the case of aimslop, it is clearer to frame them for what they are. Highly optimized means short songs with simple aim and minimal tapping, essentially making the cursor flow between jumps avoiding wide angles.

It does also say circa, not a cutoff. It was around June 2024 when the NAT was restructured after many controversies, which caused BNs to stop enforcing rhythm to be emphasized via triples or bursts in short maps.
Note that there's few, if any, farm maps nowadays with bursts. The paradigm shift alone in the ranking criteria and mindset of the NAT/BNs (despite some vetos) is enough to deserve its own scene tag as an era. Even if it is seen as overly simple and lazy, the aimslop current is bringing us ranked aim in its purest, rawest form. The likes that would have only been found in graveyarded sets until now.
I believe that is why it fits in such category, aimslop scene. It completely rewired ranking conventions as we knew them.

I would be open to add "slop" as a single descriptor, allowing it to be paired with other descriptors in the skillsets category (aim, streams, etc.) but remaining as "slop". "Speedslop" and "flowaimslop" are also part of this scene after all, and they also constitute the same principles of distilling each skillset to its basic form.
I do acknowledge it might end up becoming too wide and unwieldy, so more discussion is indeed needed.

posting here because idk anywhere to remove descriptor

I don't think this descriptor should be on this site for a few reasons

- It's extremely subjective, as subjective as previously denied proposals like https://omdb.nyahh.net/descriptor/proposal/?id=1 or https://omdb.nyahh.net/descriptor/proposal/?id=4 in my opinion, yes this is a style descriptor and styles are inherently subjective, but even in the more farmy side of the community what's considered "aimslop" is controversial.

- The year cut off is really weird imo, there's plenty of maps ranked earlier than 2024 that fit the description of this descriptor, i've seen people call these maps "aimslop" too (or proto-aimslop ig) but they aren't considered "aimslop" here.

- Why only aim? It's not like people aren't calling speed farm maps "speedslop" or reading map they dislike "readingslop" or bad tournament custom "tourneyslop". You can say it's more used, but i really don't think popularity should be a thing to consider for descriptors.

- Even the description of the descriptor has ambiguous wordings. What's "highly optimized" here? Is it how easy it is to farm? To play? The few conversations I have with "aimslop" mappers make this a bit muddy, they often focus on one but not necessary the other.

- I really don't think an inherently negative descriptor have a place in omdb (you must see the map as "slop" to call it aimslop), to me aimslop exist in the same place as "movement mapping" or "avalon mapping" created as a way to insult mapping styles you don't like/understand. Even tho I don't agree with the mapping style I don't think we should go around calling others' map with a term that's invented to insult their creation.

I feel like at the very least there should be a discussion made about this descriptor before it's added tho, the way such a controversial descriptor was just spawn in one day feels rly weird for me even if I know there's no malicious intend.
