probably gonna get lynched for this comment but kinda curious as to why the osu! mapping community has such a distaste towards hi-mei's mapping

I guess I can see this map being super questionable in regards to what it stands for + the mapper's attitude as a whole. That being said, I weirdly find it pretty fun

Visuals matter, hitsounding matter, angles matter, tactile feedback matter, consistent spacing matter.
You can do stuff in different ways, improvised or systematic, from the start or vice versa.
Design is not an art. Design is a shared understanding.
Shape follows function.

Accept criticism when its logically explained.
Visible logic > style, or any made up excuse you can come up with.
Style is not an excuse, it is an approach that provides all the concepts on normal level of execution.

Quantity begets quality.
To get gradually better, you must always question yourself whether you can explain stuff you are doing or not. A great pattern is a pattern you can fully explain using logic and concepts (parallelism, symmetry, blanketing, polygons, grids, pseudo-randomness, antiflow, map's theme etc).

olc had basically this exact take on mapping but he actually knew how his maps played
