June 2026 OMDB update
Posted by moonpoint on Jun 30, 2026 20:54 | edited Jun 30, 2026 20:56firstly, as some of you may know the site was relaunched being co-hosted by myself and Luscent. OMDB is back to being 100% mine, and I want to extend a thanks to Luscent for being a big reason why the site is back in the first place.
secondly, i want to go over some of the new features that have been released in the past few months.
Recommendations
beatmaps with over 10 ratings will now show related beatmaps. this is by VINXIS under my direction, with current weights being Deca's suggestions. i hope that this serves as a good way of discovering more maps, or at the very least being interesting to look at. i expect this feature to be better over time, whether through algorithmic improvements or by more data being available. thank you for those who have been using descriptors on maps!
Improved Filters
VINXIS has spearheaded huge improvements to the filters on the chart, profile, and ratings page. you can now choose between including and excluding all filtering options (in case you want to hide all of those damn avant-garde maps), and you can now search by star ratings. work has been done to make this expandable in the future for more beatmap settings, as i plan to collect more data for omdb, so hopefully soon you can search by difficulty settings and whatnot. everyone say thank you VINXIS!
Random Map of The Day
something that i've wanted to see for a while is a random selected beatmap that is highlighted to everyone every day. and this is finally implemented! i'm happy to see people using this and i'm glad people are finding it fun. maps that are greater than 3* or are top difficulties are eligible to be rolled. proper history tracking is planned to be added soon, but in the mean time you can check out past random maps through omdb Random Maps of the Day (a bat)!
Shortlinks
i've been using them in this post! you can now create quick links to various OMDB items through square bracket notation, for example [Item1000]. at the moment this supports maps, sets, lists, descriptors and users.
Descriptor Improvements
you can now edit existing descriptors, by clicking the edit button at the bottom of the descriptor pages. the max proposal count has also been extended to 9 from 3. i plan to add long description support for descriptors, since some descriptors would benefit from more detail or history. wouldn't you love to read about the history of tech someday? please look forward to this!
Profile Page Improvements
mappers will see a new component on their page designed by VINXIS, featuring stats and recent ratings. thank you VINIXS!
Friends Page
Another one I've wanted for a while, you can now see your friends activity on the site with varying filtering options
Labs
a page for experiments on OMDB is set up, so keep your eyes peeled for any interesting stuff that might appear there! at the moment both things on there are by VINXIS. thank you VINXIS!
so yeah there's very cool stuff happening, three quarters of it by VINXIS so yet again thank you VINXIS. there's much more cool stuff planned in the future too, it's not the end for this wave of OMDB updates. feel free to join the discord if you wanna join in on discussions about the site and get previews on WIP stuff.
thanks again for enjoying my site!
