unless recently patched out I can definitely recall playing 4+ min maps in ranked, distinctly remember one guy getting pissed at me for picking Kaikou Trialogue
Considering this was submitted in September 2011 it was really just patchouli and Val creating fully realised alternator maps in this sr range. Other mappers experimenting in the space (names that come to mind include 100pa, atk1992, and v2b) were still testing the waters while the blueprint was already being laid out.
left my first playthrough on tobe's diff a little conflicted, 00:34:451 (1,2,3,4,5,6) - leaves an immediate impact, the copy paste afterwards at 00:38:625 and 00:46:973 without the reverb on the falsetto to back it up ended up muddying some of it's initial appeal.
compared to life is game which is comfortably the more technically proficient outing from tobe this year, I felt a desire for this map to really nail it's emotional highlights to really stand out - I feel like he nailed this the first time you play the pattern, which makes it sad that subsequent uses afterwards don't seem to achieve that same impact.
3.5 > 4, love how the 1/3 trills play and finding the semi-stacked doubles more intuitive after initially playing this a year ago really helps me enjoy the map more as a whole
I'll go to bat for this set in that it doesn't feel like it's trying to imitate or 1up the patchouli set - I sometimes come back to this set for it's more conventional interpretation with simple snap alt patterns compared to gillstar's which I find tends to frustrate me with certain unintuitive patterns that don't feel particularly rewarding for investing multiple plays into.
fun fact if u dont agree with someone's rating all the other ratings on the map end up standardising the output, one rating does nothing except push a few decimal points in one direction or another!
Think I've thought to myself that I'd like to see a map of this song played straight enough times that it probably means I don't like the map as much as I thought I did initially
speaking of the ranked date search function cheers mezame for linking me to this banger, the hitsounding work at 01:19:587 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,1,2,3,4,5) was really cute!
Recently after I play an older map that leaves a strong impression on me I've started using the ranked date search function on the website to try to contextualise my thoughts in line with what was coming out at the time - also just helps find other cool maps!
I think this map stands out mostly because it takes a bunch of things other established mappers were doing at the time and makes them work in tandem, shinxyn inspired jump patterns with high paced but not overbearing slider velocity, and dynamic changes in rhythm make for a map that stands out a lot of the other maps being ranked at the time.
kiai's are quite fun, feels like we're doing way too much from 00:46:276 to 00:56:943 though, tends to filter out my enjoyment before the map has even started :(
Very disciplined understanding of the fundamentals of old school alt style here, a real treat to find this while searching through graveyarded maps
hell yea
very clear through line between the two

fortunately peaking in 2012 and this map being raw as fuck are not mutually exclusive

doubling down kiiwa's diff is an all timer
It’s a bit rough, I can see the intent with difficulty progression between kiai’s but it’s fairly haphazard in execution
2 bat more than a bat I do #maths

U are a strange person
we post the same comment twice because apparently we cant get the point across otherwise

although both the lunatic diff and the delis set have done nothing for me so it remains my preferred option of the bunch

can't rate this until I pass I'll see you guys when I'm stockholm syndromed into enjoying it

Feels a lot more restrained than a lot of their previous maps, I think the simplicity works in it's favour, makes for a much tighter play experience.
straightforward no-nonsense aim test complemented by a song that's pure camp, it's just fun man!
