the map greew on me a lot

you had to be there to understand why this map was so highly revered. it's quite different from pretty much anything that came before it, and while you can still tell there's some old map jank in it if you pay attention, it's a timeless classic.

the way that the difficulty curves upward through tangible changes to established patterns formed a lot of my design philosophy towards difficulty and repetition (especially the realization that 02:52:455 (1,2,3,4,5,6) was just the back and forth sliders and 02:59:697 (3,4,5) was just the triangle), the patterns where a shared relative angle lets patterns branch off from a 5 degree slider for emphasis e.g. 01:43:835 (2,3,4) are sick and got to my mapping secondhand (through pishifat's handlebars lmao). also i'm not sure if this is true but the vertical sliders at 03:15:904 may have awoken something in me regarding sections of vertical sliders

i like when the map is a map and it does map things

an undeniable milestone but it doesn't really click with me, i think RLC has maps visibly better than this

i see this map more as a stepping stone for RLC as a mapper after studying the blade of dksslqj, and his craft really did improve as the time went on. i believe why people loved this map so much was because this map still had some ideas that the community wasn't familiar with or simply were never seen before, and most importantly, visuals. i still feel this map is somewhat weak as a whole package, too much of it feels arbitrary even though it might look nice and well structured. moral of the story is why not stan anhedonia instead??????????????????

this is one of the more forgettable RLC maps imo (ignoring its effect on the mapping meta) - it's just mapping the song with his base style

most of his later maps are more interesting because they either have much better execution (orvid, dstorv) or do something else interesting (playing with fire, bassdrop freaks, haelequin)
