i just played through katamari damacy reroll again and this map feels like the best way you could translate the joy and wonder of a game like that into a beatmap. it's messy; it's not pretty at all; it throws you across so many bumps, all the obstacles you knock yourself into and thus lose like 1m of katamari size. but it's still so wonderful. this is a map from the cosmos.
the attention that this set has been getting makes all the work of the people who have mapped like this in the near past feel like that one key & peele sketch where the guy just tells his friend's jokes louder so everyone can give him credit for it
this map does nothing interesting and makes no effort to improve over the other 2 sets we've already had this year of this song. it just feels like a tactless and soulless version of the dense & linear kind of mapping that i feel has had a lot of resurgence lately. this is the mapping equivalent of hillary clinton doing the nae-nae on the ellen degeneres show
