I'm going to close this proposal since it's clear that it didn't hold up the threshold needed. Since proposing this descriptor, I've also had a few doubts surrounding the descriptor; such as (1) people using the descriptor in bad faith, (2) people possibly taking offense upon the descriptor, and lastly (3) the lack of clear boundaries of what defines a "training" map. If anyone wants to open up a proposal that runs in the same vein as this one, I'm more than happy to support it :)

Aren't like tourney maps the best example for this kind of description? As ive heard all tourney designed maps are made to be centered around certain skill and push the player to its limits and stuff, might be wrong tho but that's what i feel like

main problem is there arent enough ranked/loved maps in total for this tag imo

wow an actually good descriptor

i second what pug said this is fucking awesome

specify the skillsets if you're gonna use this for maps that aren't specifically made for training, and for that, very often you can easily tell if a map is made for training, so i see very little point in this

this is really awesome because it lets you put stream training on every ctrl+shift+f map

great idea but not the best way to go about it imo

Maybe the descriptor should be something along the lines of "maps made with the sole purpose of training a specific skillset" or something, to make sure it's strictly used

> if we're talking maps made specifically for the purpose of training it's literally like 99.9999% loved maps
i don't see the problem in this though because loved maps do have a place in omdb

i think i'm okay with it only being specified for maps explicitly made for training purposes. from discussions behind closed doors it was rather an oversight from me that this descriptor might be viewed (or even abused, if we're looking for extreme examples) in a bad light when applied to maps that aren't specifically 'training maps' (2nd point in my original comment)

i was a little bit iffy about how will we start identifying maps that are actually made for training purposes, though (for less obvious examples). some of the maps i pointed out in the 1st point (outside from the "jump training" ones) were a little more in the obvious side. there's cases for maps like this: Nanahoshi Kangengakudan feat. Matsushita - Dance Number o Tomo ni (apoq) -- where (imo) this feels like a "thought-out map", opposite from a "barebones map" (quoting apollo's comment here)

i think so, it applies only for just some "loved" maps but there are enough training maps for it

Leaning toward Yes, but I'm guessing it would be for just some loved maps, because it would probably have to be used strictly, like "Square Jump Practice Maps". I think it would get confusing if it was used for Arles maps or maps like LOVE BOMB.

if tag filtering is a sure plan i don't rlly see the need for this tag you could just sort by skillset instead

judging from tag description mono skillset maps would also be labeled training so tag filtering in the future would just render this obselete

moonpoint voted no

not sure whether i agree with the descirptor being particularly valuable for maps not EXPLICITLY made for training purpose. lists and (as suggested by mizunashi akari) tag filtering will surely be a thing at some point, so such mono-skillset maps could be discovered that way (especially through lists).

barebone maps for training purposes definitely seems like *a thing* though, so...

how da hell do we propose descriptors

Mizunashi Akari voted no

if the intent is just to find maps with a specific skill focus it would be infinitely better to just add tag filtering

just training as a tag gives like absolutely no information at all it's basically useless except as a troll tag on maps u hate

I'm proposing this descriptor to identify maps that are often made with intention to train specific skillsets, or just maps that solely just focuses on one specific skillset (by chance, I guess?). I'm hoping that one day this would prove beneficial/efficient for potential OMDB users to find maps in this reign for practice purposes, too, outside from the purpose of just describing the maps. Let's get a little bit deeper into this:

- Maps that are often made (seemingly) with intention to train specific skillsets: these would classify "jump training" maps for example (although not only for "jump training" maps only), stuff like /s/112651 I think that this would come a little bit obvious, so here's a little less obvious example (just because the map isn't named "Jump Practice" or whatever): /s/1232750 Here's a few sets that specializes on burst/stamina training too: /s/859515 /s/1435435 /s/53059 (I would argue that the Bon Appetit S map is quite known in the regard of "benchmarking" your stamina skillset, and Dash Hopes being the infamous joke speed map for quite a decade now).

- Maps that focuses on one specific skillset (by chance). I know this sounds silly, but this aims to categorize maps like /s/297933 /s/21928 or maybe even /s/423527 into the descriptor. People have used maps like these to train their respective skillsets, see meta (2) for one example (among a lot of others).
