August 2026 OMDB update
Posted by moonpoint on Aug 17, 2026 15:29as always, you can follow development on the site closely on the Discord (link found on the site footer)
Tournaments
OMDB now has support for creating tournaments, and linking maps to tournaments. Mapset pages now show what tournament a map is a tournament custom for, as well as showing any tournaments that the map was featured in. Importantly, the intent of this system is not for managing tournaments from OMDB, but rather keeping a historical record of them and linking maps to them. In the future, tournaments will support a "credits" system similar to the beatmap credits system. You can view and create tournaments from the "tournaments" page found in the "maps" tab in the top bar. Shortlinks are supported for tournaments via [TournamentXXX] and [TournamentSeriesXXX]. View some tournaments here:
- osu! World Cup 2025
- COE 1v1 Tournament 2025
- Corsace Open 2024
Tournaments are created and managed on OMDB by the users. Contributions here are encouraged and very welcome! Crediting OMDB contributors is something that will see improvement in the future. In the future, please expect a similar "Mapping Contest" feature to be released that will cover basically the same thing but for mapping contests.
OMDB Patron
When the site first launched, OMDB had a donation option hidden in the footer for anyone who wished to support the site. This has been gone for many years now, however the option to support the site has now returned in the form of "OMDB Patron", which functions similarly to osu!supporter with some benefits:
- a patron badge that is displayed on your profile and comments,
- a customisable profile theme that appears for anyone viewing your profile,
- a role in the Discord,
- and more to come! (suggestions accepted)
Some people have already been supporting the site and have rolled out some really cool profile themes, so check them out!
clefable, maxb, VINXIS, a bat
I want to thank everyone who has chosen to support the site thus far, and anyone who may consider and support in the future. Your contributions directly support me and the site. It all goes to upkeep, upgrades, ... and me. I will never ever put advertisements on this site, so if you wish to support OMDB then this is a great way of doing so. Thank you!
Mobile improvements
VINXIS has done an amazing job revamping the way the site functions on mobile. This was an effort that extended across the entire site, and it has resulted in a mobile experience that's much better, night and day. When I first made the site, desktop was my primary focus with mobile being an afterthought. So I am glad that finally OMDB is more usable on these devices, and that you can actually see your username in the top bar now.
Private mode
A feature that some other rating/logging sites have is the ability to completely hide your presence from everyone else. For some people, this is a more comfortable experience for engaging with a rating platform. OMDB now has a "private mode" which effectively does this, hiding your profile, ratings, comments and reviews from nearly everyone. There are, of course, some things to note about this:
- Your ratings still have impact on averages and charts. Furthermore, they appear in the mapset rating listing, but anonymized as "hidden".
- Mutuals can still see all of your activity.
- Lists remain public until you make them private manually.
- There are still some places where you will appear to other users. Namely, descriptor votes and hearts on lists/reviews.
Wiki
An early effort has began for creating a wiki for OMDB. This is still very much in it's infancy, and this is a place where I would love to have some more hands on deck in order to create more articles. You can see a (very unfinished) article in the form of Tournaments, which currently contains guidelines for adding tournament maps. This is an opportunity for an OMDB user title for anyone who wants to hop in and create an article: you can be a Wiki Editor (or something similar if i can come up with something cooler). Join the Discord if any of these interest you, or if you have your own ideas, I would love to see articles on these:
- Shortlinks
- Descriptors / Descriptor Proposals
- Tags
- OMDB
- Filter
- Contributing to OMDB
- User visibility
- Charts
- Mapset credits
Expanded filter options
Isn't VINXIS the best? Filtering for charts, profiles and ratings have seen more improvements since the addition of the system a few months ago. You can now search by:
- User tags
- Mappers
- Descriptor count
Miscellaneous
- The site has had multiple optimisations passes, with some pages now loading up to 20x faster! The search function is also much faster now. Thank you VINXIS for the huge amount of help here.
- The boundary for a map being "bolded" has increased from Top 250 to Top 500.
- The API has had multiple rounds of fixes and improvements.
- The project now has linting so the codebase is more consistent and easier to contribute towards.
- The site's font has changed in order to accommodate a wider range of font weights.
- New descriptors have been added: lazer only, fast bursts
and that concludes the updates for the past two months! thank you again for using the site. and additionally, shout out to the contributors from the past month as well, thank you very much for supporting the site!
