I think modern era osu still has some power for introducing music to people but it's just less in the realm of "knowing this song becomes shared culture among the whole playerbase" and moreso individual discovery moments
i haven't sat and carefully looked at this map, but if you're willing to describe it as "slop" and "mindlessly self-serving gameplay" this indicates to me that the mapper is *using* the song to accomplish maybe-not-very-respectable goals, rather than engaging with it to create something greater.
i think of a dichotomy between, for want of better words, "one-directional utilization" vs. "symbiosis" in the attitude of the map / mapper to the song. if the song is trying to convey some significant emotional thing (or if people are attached to it in that way), to me it makes sense to view a map created with the former one-directional type of motivation as disrespectful to that; to anthrophomorphize further, a song like this is one with "agency" trying to do something, and a "one-directional" map is one which aims to overwrite the songs agency with something else, if that makes any sense.
this is orthogonal to the level of effort that went into the map
if you agree with this as applying to say clip farm / pp farm maps (the most unambiguously "one-directional" types of map) then i guess the only dispute here is whether the current map in question is also on the same end of the spectrum or not -- i have no opinion to contribute there
map creation is a form of intercourse with the song
this is intensified by the fact that we are toeing the line between piracy and free-use when we do it; the least you can do is have some respect to the content you are using

it's true these kinds of responses are rude to the mapper, and i think they're better off kept out of public discussion
