the patterns feel like they're lifted directly from my brain because they're super similar to the things i tap out during break / slow sections. i've never been so sure that a mapper is a drummer, the d mixed 1/4 1/6 section with the 1/6 moving forward each time is something you would see in a snare drum solo and it's hella fun to play (FOR ONLY ME APPARENTLY)
i've also had the idea in my head for a few years of a taiko map to a metronome that's just a fabricated drum solo with fun rhythms, this is basically just that but with different musical sections to organize gameplay ideas and it was made in 2010 and it's dope
i think theres a decent number of ppl who arent approaching it with an open mind and just see rhythm acting as a separate layer to express the song instead of directly following the song and associate that with bad rhythm. this type of overmapping is just polarizing but its honestly really straightforward overmapping
2023 is the year of maps that try so extremely hard to squeeze all of the map juices out of the song that they stop looking like maps anymore. i don't think there are more but this one and majo saiban are two of the worst offenders of this for me. honestly its kinda awesome cuz i havent had maps create this feeling for me before 2023 and new feelings r good
@koish check the comment section basically. this site has 2 main groups with this map, people who don't rate it because it's primarily meant to be a showcase and people who rate it a 5 because it's cool. if you judge it by the same metrics that you judge ranked maps then it kinda sucks but without the 0 ratings it would probably be #3 or #4 right now despite being on a different playing field from everything else
also i rated this when the charts were in flux so they were more interesting but now idgaf cuz its just boomer city
@kataryn its bc it embodies a lot of recent trends people dislike.
- every pattern shoved in a corner for some nebulous incorrect reasons relating to "utilizing negative space" because raiko said it in 2021. especially in the slow parts, the further away from the center you put patterns with NCs the more reading strain is happening so it just feels wack here
- spacing ranging from everything being the same to wack emphasis in order to get to the next corner faster. in a lot of communities the concept of "good movement" has been reduced to movement being "comfortable" or "agreeable" instead of utilizing strong emphasis
- high sv complexity as a substitute for the lack of movement emphasis which comes off as really obnoxious, especially in slower parts
i do think the contrast in this map is rly ambitious. i also have bias towards dynamic art where a lot of shit happens in any medium so the sv variation in the chorus does activate my brain a bit i just wish it wasnt Everywhere

i completely forgot everything about this map and looked at it again today. i was looking at the first half and i was thinking "ok, he's using a lot of kicksliders to bridge the density gap between the first and second half. i get it", then i got to the first real kiai and the number of kicksliders made me physically recoil. take that as you will
