deleted my last reply bc it turns out I had just misattributed something, it's all good now. I'm sorry to kind of cause a scene here, I just want people to be good to each other.

Personally, I'd probably feel a bit more upset by a 0 with no comment than a harsh comment, but maybe that's just me, I guess neither are great but at least you have a reason. It makes it easier to judge the user as a person and their rating system; if someone is going off the rails over something I don't think is a big deal then I could easily just laugh it off. This site definitely got toxic and circlejerk-y at times, but I wouldn't want a rating site where everyone is overly polite, sterile, and not wanting to rate how they truly feel in fear of hurting the mapper's feelings, either.

i personally got offended by the ugly wave overlap spam along with the random ass jumps and fucking this 06:17:083 (1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3) - like the idea is cool but i think ur exaggerating especially since its a little off timing wise lmao also idk why but a lot of hitsounds are missing

didn't enjoy this beatmap, but i like other beatmaps

no bro this is like level 0 excuse for being an ass. you unequivocally did not just say what you disliked about the map. there is a clear difference between -

"ugly ass overlaps" vs "overlaps I don't like"
"random ass jumps" vs "jumps i didnt like"
"fucking this <pattern>" vs. "this pattern i didn't like"

i know this is far from the worst example of toxicity but i gotta be real i am so sick of you putting people down for nothing. stop acting like you're entitled to be mean

anyway I do think criticism is important in any community like this, I hope that isn't getting lost in my words here. I just prefer to look at maps through a lens of the purpose they *do* serve in the game, much like james just described, and I wish more people realized you can criticize a map while also having respect for that. those two things can coexist. that's all

also perhaps this is just the language barrier kicking in like you said but I never, ever tried to justify the map by calling it "creative". the phrase "creative decisions" is not positive or negative, "creative" is simply a word that describes one's artistic direction. and again, you are fully allowed to disagree with one's artistic direction in a way that recognizes that they are also allowed to have one

app you know I never tried to defend this map's decisions or even say that it's good, I'm just trying to get you to engage with it in a constructive way. I find it destructive to be abrasive towards a mapper who I know for a fact has intentions that have nothing to do with you. I do *not* find it destructive to dislike a map. there is a clear, distinct difference between those two things.

harsh opinions are bound to be had, that said, this website is a perfect way to have an excuse to spread negativity and chock it up to just an opinion. I'm not saying its a good thing nor am i saying i havent done this before, but i now recognize its probably for the better we're losing omdb. a world where ranking maps doesnt come with worrying about what the public will think because chances are if its not farm right now nobody gonna GAF outside of omdb, which will be gone.
