oh this map exploded
imo the fact that it's so cleanly made with minimal overlap in patterns is great justification of using auch a low ar, it's especially not unfair gameplay design. is ar0 optimal for this map? ehhhhhhhhhhh but it's fine
i believe rita woulda mapped this way differently on ar7 so imo its a great showcase of deliberate design
ar feels kinda forced
game map
not to mention i do believe a jump map like this being AR0 should be more than enough to qualify as a reading map, there are maybe like dozens of people who can consistently play jump maps (even 6*s) on EZ which would usually be around AR5
what i personally really respect about this map or rrtyui's Knight Rider is that they're made with a good understanding of how to make an AR0 map still be playable and not just a complete memory map. you seem to have this preconception that a "reading map" should have confusing patterns or whatever, but you'll understand that, if you set fixed AR on 0 and go through just 5 randomly selected 6* maps, that they are genuinely unplayable to the point of being insufferable. YMMV but in my eyes that is simply not a fair challenge
"If AR0 was default, this would be an average map" sure, but that's not the world we live in
have you ever had an independent thought
Lovely icecream princess sweetie is a reading map by definition, at AR9.
AR and EZ are just cheat codes to make a map hard to read, but these alone do not make a map a reading map. Just a visual clusterfuck of simple and clear patterns presented overwhelmingly.
Again, this is just visually dense simple patterns. Nothing in the pure structure of this map makes any attempt at obfuscating, obstructing or having misleading note order and timing. If AR0 was default, this would be an average map
lovely icecream princess sweetie kind of gaps a lot of reading maps I've had to play for tournament lol
there are no ar9 "reading" maps ever
>a 320 bpm map at ar 9 is millions times harder in reading than a 200 bpm 7 on EZ
lol what
I think what is weird with the label "reading slop" is that reading is one of the 3-core part of osu's mechanical expression and not a "type of pattern" (like stream/jump/fast SV could be, those are pattern not a skill).
So when you try to define what a "reading map" is you find yourself in a weird position to delimitate when the "reading skill" is overwhelming compared to the rest since every map is actually a reading/tapping/aiming map.
Thats also probably why aimslop is so hard to actually define except pointing out the short farm map, since theorically "aimmslop" could just encompass every map with the "aiming skill" as the main one, aiming also including unconfortable jump and co.
Also the most commonly accepted description of "reading" being low ar is kinda stupid tbh, firsty because its rather the density that actually make the map harder in term of reading (a 320 bpm map at ar 9 is millions times harder in reading than a 200 bpm 7 on EZ, a map like Flamewall top diff is hevely reading for exemple), but the biggest issue is probably that reading dosen't stop at density but overall pattern comprehension / how to execute them. (What we usually call "aim control" are mainly reading heavy map that also include hard aiming for ex)
This is not a reading map, it is just visually dense readingslop. Whether anyone likes it or not is independent
i can say the same about every single ryuusei aika map ever made and it would be theoretically correct and absolutely moral
"This is not a reading map, it is just visually dense readingslop" this sentence is completely meaningless to me and does not convey any worthwhile analysis of the map itself
What is this discourse even about honestly I was off this website for a few days and then this happens can someone summarize
This map is very fking sexy it doesn't matter what ar it is idc it will automatically be better than every ar0 map I've seen before though because it's a normal map and not like weirdo ugly ass patterns with perfect stacks (Eww!!!!!) like heat abnormal
its just an opinion, ar changes maps visually and I believe low ar for the sake of making it a reading map is a bad thing, but people can disagree on that and that's good
why a map have to be structured xx way and not yy way like this map though ? maybe it's just a map with fun pattern that is on ar0 that shouldn't be compartmentalized into the bin of "reading maps that challenge xx skillsets specifically and are structured xx way" when's the actual analysis occurring when ur looking at maps already waiting to put them in a category
@Lilian I care.
It is not an arbitrary label, and the judgement is not based on the label. Judgement comes first, and the outcome is a label.
As to why, assigning labels to maps implies you have analyzed them and given the process a minimum thought. It is better than saying "map bad" or "map good".
This is not a reading map, it is just visually dense readingslop. Whether anyone likes it or not is independent
This entire site is one big top down processing fail
All the things omdb said
i'm sure you'd make a better non-repetitive beatmap honey
shit reading maps is when n0ah played a 2009 map and couldnt read it so he made oddloop
U guys have not had to play a shit "reading" (Or actually a memory map) in a tournament and it shows
^ this af but i didnt write this myself because if i wrote it it would have ended with me saying i want to blow up 8 billion people
maybe I'm confused but why are we assigning this map an arbitrary label and then making a judgment based on that label. who cares if it's a "reading map" or not
homogenous jump patterns + low ar =/= good reading map sorry.
not sure i really like these sort of problematic beatmap makers
mm yes I'm making [reading] map tonight for dinner, let me crank the oven to ar0
"reading map" is when the experience of sightreading is interesting and engaging rather than trivial hope this helps
yeah this type of low ar map is completely fine
reading maps are when the map actively tricks you with the most underhanded shit and you have to learn the map instead of learning the ar
I fuarking Lov my Reading Slorp!!! !!
no disrespect, just my opinion on the diffs
patchy's 1.5 cuz no contrast and just idk same thing again and again and I don't like that, Roria's is a little better but I don't vibe with it and it feels lackluster in some parts cuz of the rhythm choices, it doesn't really get what I usually liked about when people mapped this way
"is it really readingslop if it’s just a Normal Map with low ar ontop" -literally the worst type of thing a mapper could do imo
+ this one is even worse cuz it feels so repetitive (its not bad otherwise tho, thats why I still gave it a 2/5)
Yes, the term was coined just now. That is the exact definition
readingslop
Insane is Yay af
pp map for the ezmaxxers
Great hitsounding
yea.
well mapped fun challenge that i cant play properly unfortunately
extra is p fun, insane diff is great and i really like the hitsounding. top diff is one of those maps where it's cool to have a few of these in ranked so that people that minmax into shit like this have more ways of demonstrating their skill which i think is cool
0 diffs for me lmao
Idk if I like it I think I like it
