Many of you here are like this mapper

I didn't wanna be the first one to rate this

crazy how this was comically unconventional in 2018

i wanted to rate this but it was too boring to sit through

yes and also

"I’d be more inclined to take interest in stuff like this if ppl didn’t treat it like it’s some transcendental way of mapping that nobody else can even fathom to comprehend but them"

just lol

"If you love mapping - try discussing it for once instead of discussing social constructs"

This is not how mapping or any medium for that matter works.

About a year ago I rated this a 2 or something and every time I revisit it I understand it better I've been enlightened

"As such, I find it very dismissive and frankly a little insulting to argue that some aren't viewing maps through a critical lens just because what they value doesn't align with what yours."

That is not what I said.

But there is also many arguments supporting the notion that "farm" maps are popular for reasons other than the pp they award.

Yes, the point is that they're easily consumable not that they give lots of pp.

"this is more than enough to signal that if someone seeks more from this game, it can offer it."

Yes the point is that they may no longer be inclined to.

this map is weird cuz i really like a lot of parts and really hate also a lot of parts

this song is cute

u could say its vile

Btw this is disgusting

It actually is precisely because of farm maps that the general public no longer values mapping in a critical sense. A small circle of powerful mappers (u know who) use their power to promote easily consumable, low quality maps which specifically tailor to the average player. Because of this the average player will begin to devalue the experience of maps and over time they may subconsciously lose the ability to think of maps critically at all. For even newer players they might have never valued mapping through a critical lens at all.

I could explain further but this is something Theodore Adorno and Max Horkheimer discuss regarding art and mass media in their book Dialectic of Enlightenment so if you're interested go read that. It will change your life.

Even if I didn't agree that's quite cold for a frostwich take

To be clear mapping an entire violin concerto is no doubt a massive undertaking so I respect TKH for ranking something like this. Having said that Sibelius' Concerto is full of emotion and color whereas the patterning and rhythm of the map are overly simple to the extent that it feels like much of the essence of the song is being lost. This is most plainly seen through the SV changes which often feel random at best and it's what I would attribute most to the inexplicable lack of soul present in the map. While you could easily argue that the map doesn't have to or even shouldn't reflect the phrasing of the performance, it is regardless quite plain to see that it does not. I'm not melloe so I'm not gonna sit here and write a full critical analysis but simply put I think TKH bit off a little more than he could chew here.

the considerable ambition of this map is unfortunately its exact fault
